Pre-employment program graduates to join Coles at new store
Coles has employed eight graduates of its Indigenous Pre-Employment Program ahead of the opening of its new central Kalgoorlie store. The eight new team members graduated from the program last week and will be employed on a permanent part time basis at the new store, which will open on June 2 at the new Kalgoorlie Shopping Centre.
Coles has an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander plan which aims to increase Indigenous team member representation to 5% of its total workforce by 2023.
“The Coles Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander plan focuses on employment as a key outcome as it is important to Coles that we represent the communities where we operate, “Coles Indigenous engagement adviser Marty Taylor said.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor John Bowler congratulated Coles on its pre-employment program.
“There is nothing more important than giving a person a job,” Mr Bowler said.
“Without long term employment the stresses of a modern society make it very difficult to lead a successful life.”
The team members will work across various departments and Coles will also be hiring 10Indigenous juniors on a casual basis.
