Gold exploration in Western Australia reaches record levels

New figures show gold exploration in Western Australia has reached record levels … again!

The latest data released on Wednesday 1 June 2021 by the Australian Bureau of Statistics just confirms what most drillers and geologists working in Kalgoorlie-Boulder already know – there is a major mining boom going on and gold’s golden run is continuing.

The statistics show $246. 9 million was spent in WA searching for the precious metal in the March quarter – the best start to a year on record.  That is up 34 per cent compared to the $183.3 million which was spent in the March 2020 quarter, with the hot summer months typically quieter for exploration.

The new figures come after WA gold explorers broke the all-time record by spending $269.2 million in the December 2020 quarter, bringing the total expenditure for last year to an eye-watering $921.6 million.  Gold was the hottest commodity making up the bulk of the combined $479.7 million which was spent on mineral exploration in WA during in the March quarter, with $96.4 million going towards iron ore exploration.
